Dan has long been an advocate of sustainable healthcare and believes that doctors should be leading the way when it comes to protecting the planet for future generations.

Dan and the Sustainable Surgery in Wales Team have recently been shortlisted for the 2020 BMJ Awards, which have been sadly postponed due to the Covid pandemic.

Dan published the first carbon footprint of cataract surgery and was instrumental in setting up the Sustainability Working Group of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as part of the Professional Standards Committee.

Dan was lead author for the first carbon footprint of cataract surgery, published in Eye.

Dan continues to raise awareness and push the sustainability agenda, introducing a College Congress academic sustainability prize in collaboration with Bausch & Lomb.

Dan has been on many panels for helping people understand the concept of sustainable healthcare and trying to achieve the goal of a carbon neutral health service.
